Getting kids and their families outdoors and connected to Nature
"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
"Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."
"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike."
-John Muir
We all have those vivid childhood memories: the shock of jumping into a cool lake on a hot summer day, the focused attention of watching ants on the march, or hours spent simply lying back and watching clouds drift by.
Whether we realized it at the time or not, those moments in the outdoors helped shape our understanding of the natural world around us. Today, however, these kinds of memories are becoming increasingly rare for many young people.
Statistics consistently show a decline in the amount of time children spend outdoors compared to previous generations, a trend that has been linked to a variety of negative outcomes for their physical, mental, and emotional health.
John Muir Boot Camp’s mission is to get kids and their families back outdoors into Nature!
